What was the objective?
To divert (refuse, recycle, compost, upcycle or reuse) 99 percent of all on-trip waste produced via company-sponsored trip operations, fitting all waste into one small container. To set a new standard for the travel industry by proving that it’s possible to operate a zero waste trip, motivating other companies to adopt more sustainable tourism practices by demonstrating effective ways to reduce environmental impacts while providing outstanding guest experiences.
Why was this transformational?
Our guests, guides and partners learned how to reduce waste while traveling—valuable lessons that they can apply at home, in the workplace and on other trips. We challenged and inspired our travelers and partners to make conscious choices about waste in their everyday lives and business practices. By dramatically reducing the waste produced on this trip, we gained insights we can apply at our office and across our other nature adventures in destinations worldwide.
What were the results?
This trip shifted our employees’ and travelers’ perspectives, creating an enduring ripple effect that extends far beyond the trip itself by inspiring us all to make conscious choices in our everyday lives that contribute to the long-term health of wildlife and wild places. This trip is a catalyst for our travelers to rethink their relationship with resource consumption and waste, transforming sophisticated travelers’ personal habits for the good of our planet.
