Who was the architect or designer?
Having designed >200 properties in >30 countries, celebrated architect and landscaper Bill Bensley, with ateliers in Bangkok and Bali and a team of designers and artists created Capella Ubud, Bali.
Why did you decide to work with your chosen architect or designer?
Bill was chosen because of his minimal intervention to nature as opposed to the often used “cut and fill” method, paired with his creative flair strictly utilizing honest Indonesian materials, arts and antiques.
Discuss the ethos or story behind this design
Inspired by the early European settlers from the 1800s, Bill Bensley conceptualised this refined camp as a tribute to their spirit of adventure amidst untouched nature. A tented camp was created so not to intervene with mother nature and to stay true to its inspiration and history of the island.
Why is this design mindful?
Our Indonesian owner, who is an avid art collector and nature lover, believes in giving back rather than merely taking and was adamant that mother earth remained intact as well as that honest, Indonesian materials were used and the counties’ rich heritage remained preserved.
